1. September 15, 2011- President Strikwerda in attendance at the Student Senate meeting at 3:45 p.m. in Hoover 212 to discuss plans for the drafting of the new Strategic Plans or Elizabethtown College.
2. October 01 & 02, 2011- The Inauguration Weekend of President Carl Strikwerda. Click here for a list of the events.
3. November 11, 2011- President Strikwerda hosting a Q&A session with the campus community
4. November 30, 2011- The Second Annual Art Auction in honor of Carol Isaak. Check back for additional information in the future.

Changing the Mindset

Goal: to create a comprehensive plan to change the mindset of the Elizabethtown College campus community and reduce thefts of opportunity through education, physical site changes and better enforcement.

1. Initiate an education program to gradually change student & faculty awareness and make them more aware of loss prevention. Change the mindset of “This is Etown. There is no crime here. Bad things don’t happen here. The Real world stops at College Av. and Mount Joy Street”.
   1. Article in the Etownian and possible follow up articles.
   2. Addressing Student Senate and getting their support.
   3. “Pledge of Integrity”
   4. Freshman Orientation/first week orientation
   5. Posters in identified high risk areas.
   6. Printed pamphlet with Campus Security’s info. And a section on common sense preventative measures. This can be used at the display stand.
   7. Meet with Residence Life Staff and coordinate Res. Hall programming
      1. Posters created for R.A.s
      2. Hall program
      3. Get the R.A.s on board.
   8. Meet with departments that have students providing information to prospective students and parents. Get their support in changing the student employee speech to a realistic, honest approach to presentation of crime on campus. Positive.

   1. Conduct an assessment of the campus as a whole with particular attention to high risk areas and areas with a history.

      2. Non-academic open to the general public: Brossman, BSC, Gym, High etc.
      3. Residence halls, student living areas,
      4. Grounds, open areas of campus: athletic fields, signs, banners.
      5. Evaluate assessment and make recommendations to Facilities Management for changes.

Elizabethtown College’s annual two-day celebration of student ideas and creativity begins Monday, April 18, and runs through Tuesday, April 19.

Design a cover for this year’s program using your favorite illustration or image. The contest begins Monday, February 14, and concludes Friday, March 4.

…Presenting Your Ideas, Expressing Your Creativity

Beginning Monday, February 21, you can submit a proposal to present, exhibit or perform. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 4.

…Celebrating Big Ideas

Last year, about 400 students presented, exhibited, or performed during Scholarship and Creative Arts Day. Join in the celebration. The detailed schedule of student presentations will be available Friday, April 8.

2011 Keynote Speaker

James McBride
Award-winning Author and Composer

Tuesday, April 19, at 3 p.m.
Leffler Chapel and Performance Center

James McBride will present our 2011 keynote address. Following his remarks, he and the other members of his six-piece jazz/rhythm-and-blues band will perform. McBride’s memoir, “The Color of Water,” spent more than two years on the New York Times bestseller list, was published worldwide, and was the winner of the prestigious Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. His novel, “Miracle at St. Anna,” was adapted into a major motion picture by American film icon Spike Lee. In addition, his jazz/pop musical, “Bobos,” won the American Music Theater Festival’s Stephen Sondheim Award. For more information, visit his website.

Food:

• In past years, students have complained about the price of tickets and expressed they felt they were not getting their money’s worth. One way the Class of 2012 is attempting to relinquish those feelings is by having a buffet rather than a served dinner. The buffet is all-you-can-eat and will consist of 3 main courses, several sides, and an assortment of desserts. The specific menu items will be released later this month.

Beverages:

• Water, coffee, iced tea, hot tea, and punch will be provided free of charge. You may purchase sodas at the bar ($2.00 each) if you wish.
• A cash bar will also be available for guests who are at least 21 years old (a state issued identification card must be presented; ID’s will be checked and verified). The prices for those drinks are listed below:
