SNOW and PARKING update Accuweather is predicting 2 to 4 inches of snow from 4 p.m. today through 4 a.m. tomorrow with no wind and no drifting. Our weather response plan is to have one grounds crew working this evening to clear snow as it falls on walks, with four student shoveling crew members clearing snow from building entrances. At 5 a.m. tomorrow the full grounds crew will begin removing snow to be ready for classes in the morning.
As usual, if Mother Nature changes her mind, we’ll adjust accordingly. Please remember to drive and walk carefully and dress for the weather.
Here is the planned schedule for parking lot cleaning which reflects changes requested by several departments to minimize impact on planned programs. The changes are in the Hackman Lots alternative parking areas and the times for having your vehicles moved from these lots.
For smaller storms we clear the driveways in the student lots and wait for the snow around student vehicles to melt. However, last week’s storm left far too much snow for this snow removal strategy to be effective. With this much accumulated snow in the student lots we will need to have all student vehicles removed, the lots fully cleaned and student vehicles returned to their assigned lots. The Young Center and Chapel lots will be the temporary parkinglots for student vehicles while other parkinglots are cleaned.
Please remove all snow from your vehicles in the lot where it is normally parked so we can remove the snow during our clean up operations.
Also, as is our normal practice, you can borrow snow shovels at the Facilities Management office at the Brown Building between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. Snow shovels are also available at Campus Security 24/7.

On January 12th, Haiti was devastated by a violent earthquake. In an effort to rally the support of the surrounding community, Elizabethtown College has mobilized in many ways. The Office of Civic Engagement encourages the campus community to offer aid in various forms during this time.
On this site, Student Senate will track Elizabethtown College’s progress. Also, we will highlight organizations on campus that have donated to the cause. Help Elizabethtown College reach it’s monetary goal of $10,000!
How you can help:
Monetary contributions – Your personal donations and proceeds from your campus fundraisers should be deposited in the
Haiti Disaster Relief Account being maintained by the Business Office. Please make checks payable to Elizabethtown College and indicate “Haiti Disaster Relief Initiative” on the memo line. Charges to Student ID cards will be accepted.
Supply collection – Elizabethtown College is also working to collect supplies needed for Haiti, in partnership with Millersville University (watch the video). Supplies will be delivered to Millersville University over the next 3 weeks where a 20-ton container is waiting to be filled and flown under the United Nations flag to Haiti. Please secure your donated items in zip lock storage bags. Collections locations will be at the Center for Global Citizenship and the Student Center.
These are the most urgent needs right now:
Toiletry packs: washcloth, soap, tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant (in a quart zip lock storage bag)
Blankets
Sheets
Sandals or flip-flops
Large T-shirts
Towels
Flashlights
Batteries: (AA, AAA, 9 volt, etc.)
Baby diapers
Infant formula
Large 5 gallon buckets with lids
Have an event – Student groups and organizations are encouraged to modify their currently scheduled event or create a new event to raise funds for Haitian relief. Contact Student Senate (SENATE@etown.edu) to have your event listed on this site!

Re: Call for Nominations for Distinguished Student Awards and Points of Distinction Scholar
Distinguished Student Awards
The Campus Life Council encourages nominations for this year’s Distinguished Student Awards. Students may nominate themselves or be nominated by a fellow student, faculty or staff member. Two distinguished students are chosen from each of the first-year, sophomore, junior and senior classes. College activities, leadership, community service, scholastics and other contributions to college life receive strong consideration. All nominees will be contacted for specific information relevant to the criteria stated. Award recipients will be announced at the annual Awards Ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, in Leffler Chapel.
Points of Distinction Scholar
In keeping with our commitment to “Educate for Service,” the Points of Distinction Scholar award will be granted to a senior student who best demonstrates an effective integration of the four strategic signature attributes of an Elizabethtown College education: relationship-centered learning, international and intercultural understanding, purposeful life work and experiential learning. Evidence of his or her engagement with our Points of Distinction may include achievements made through advising or mentoring relationships, international study or intercultural service project, a fulfilling internship experience, a campus or community leadership role, how he or she has integrated service into personal educational goals, etc. The Points of Distinction Scholar will be chosen from among those students who apply for the Distinguished Student Award (not a separate application process). This student also will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony.
Nominations (including student name(s) and class status) should be e-mailed to Brenda Brandt at brandtbl@etown.edu no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30. A nomination form is available for downloading from Brenda’s public folder T:\Faculty & Staff By Department\Student Life Staff/Student Life/Brandtbl/Nomination Form
